Carrollton, TX
The City of Carrollton was founded in 1842. Carrollton was settled by area pioneer families with land claims in the Peters Colony and Trinity Mills areas. The area was largely agricultural until the arrival of the Dallas-Wichita and Katy Railroads caused the industrial significance of the city to develop. The city grew rapidly after World War II as the urban expansion of North Dallas marched northward. Its 2022 population was 137,736 making it the 26th largest city in Texas. Major employers in Carrollton include AmerisourceBergen, Halliburton, Thomson Reuters, Western Extrusions, Securus Technologies, the City of Carrollton, and Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD. Carrollton is home to attractions such as Coyote Ridge Golf Club, Arbor Hills Nature Preserve, Prestonwood Baptist Church, and North Dallas and Addison dining and entertainment venues. Carrollton parks and recreation include Nob Hill Greenbelt, Green Trail, Clifford E. “Bill” Hall Park, Jimmy Porter Disc Golf Park, Ward Steenson Park, Greenbelt Disc Golf Park. Students in Carrollton attend Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD (24,858 students); some areas are in Plano ISD, Lewisville ISD, Dallas ISD, and Coppell ISD. Medical needs are served by Carrollton Regional Medical Center. Major traffic arteries through Carrollton include I-35E, SH 190 (George Bush Turnpike), SH 121 (Sam Rayburn Tollway); Carrollton also has three local stops on the Green Line of the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) light rail system, one stop on the Denton County A-train, and a stop is planned on the Silver Line of DART (service planned to start in late 2023).
